Weather Update: Thunderstorms in Free State and Eastern Cape

Cape Town - Severe thunderstorm are expected over Free State and eastern parts of Eastern Cape, as well as fire warning for Northern Cape and parts of Western Cape on Saturday, 2 December.

Rain is expected in the northern provinces.

Fire danger conditions

The SA Weather Service issued a warning for extremely high fire danger conditions expected in places over the central and eastern parts of Northern Cape, including the Central Karro of the Western Cape.

Scattered showers

60% rain is expected over KZN, eastern parts of Eastern Cape, the eastern and south-eastern parts of Free State and the southern parts of Mpumalanga.

Scattered shower are expected in the rest of Mpumalanga, southern parts of Limpopo, Gauteng, North West, the rest of the Free State and Eastern Cape, and the eastern parts of Northern Cape and Western Cape.

The Cape Town Metropole and the West Coast can also expect 30% chance of rain.

Minimum temperatures will be cool on Northern Cape's coast and the West Coast District, as well as the southern parts of the country, the eastern parts of Free State and the Ermelo Region. The rest of the country will be warm.

Springbok in Northern Cape will be the coldest place in the country, dropping to a cool 11°C.

Maximum temperatures on Saurday will be warm to hot throughout the country, with cool temperatures on the South Coast and very hot on the border with Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

The hottest place in SA will be Musina in Limpopo, reaching a sweltering 38°C.

Pretoria in Gauteng will be a hot 33°C, while Johannesburg will see a high of 29°C. Bloemfontein in the Free State will reach 28°C.

Along the coastal regions, Cape Town in the Western Cape will be a mild 22°C, while KZN's Durban will see a warm 29°C.  Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape will be 25°C.
