Delta Air Lines has its eye on creating a luxury offering to the continent, bringing the One Suite on its Joburg service - a first for Africa.

The airline’s upgraded Boeing 777 will be landing in Johannesburg from November 12, 2019.

Johannesburg will be the only market in Africa to receive these cabins, says the airline, which has served South Africa for the past 12 years. One suite features a full-height sliding door at every suite, with sliding privacy dividers between centre suites, 180-degree flat-bed seats, customisable ambient lighting, and a high-resolution in-flight entertainment screen.  Delta also offers nonstop flights from Accra, Ghana; Dakar, Senegal; and Lagos, Nigeria in addition to Johannesburg to the United States.

Through the introduction of the re-fitted aircraft, Delta will also offer its premium economy cabin, Delta Premium Select. The Main Cabin will have nine-abreast seating, rather than the industry-standard ten-abreast. With 47cm wide Main Cabin seats, the widest Main Cabin seats of Delta's international fleet.

The upgraded Boeing 777 brings more luxury, comfort and choice to South African skies and gives customers the ability to create the travel experience they want.

  • Delta Premium Select, the airline’s new premium economy cabin offering greater recline, a foot and leg rest and elevated onboard service.
  • Seat-back entertainment screens at every seat with access to Delta Studio, the airline’s award-winning suite of onboard entertainment.
  • State-of-the-art interior with ambient lighting, on-demand Wi-Fi connectivity, including free mobile messaging and power outlets available at every seat.

Cape Town recently added what has been dubbed a "game-changing" direct connectivity to the US, with the introduction of a United Airlines service - to begin in December 2019. The flight configuration will include Business and Economy class.

Customers seated in Delta Premium Select will benefit from dedicated service, additional space with retractable foot and leg rests, seat-back in-flight entertainment, plated meals and distinguished amenities such as noise-cancelling headphones and a TUMI amenity kit.
