Cape Town - Virgin Atlantic has announced it will be dropping its direct flight between London and Cape Town from next year.Tourism Update
reports, uncertainties around the new Home Affairs immigration regulations, set to come into effect on October 1 is one of the factors taken into consideration according to Virgin Atlantic General Manager Simon Newton-Smith.
While not the overall determining factor, Virgin Atlantic evaluated routes and made its decision to allow the airline to better utilise its fleet and improve profitability.
Its final flight from London to Cape Town on April 26, 2015 and from Cape Town to London on April 27, 2015.
Virgin Atlantic's service between Joburg's OR Tambo International remain unaffected.Last month, Virgin Atlantic joined 20 international airlines from countries like Rwanda, the United Kingdom, China and Mauritius petitioned government to delay the new rules by a year, warning government about the serious implications the new visa requirements could have for South Africa as a tourism destination.
