We're not expecting a Rugby World Cup 2019 win to magic our problems away. Far from it.
As News24 Editor in Chief Adriaan Basson writes in his column - calling SA Rugby Captain Siya Kolisi a national hero - "it's been 24 tough and sobering years since François Pienaar and former president Nelson Mandela lifted the Webb Ellis trophy in 1995. As much as we can wax lyrical about how that victory brought South Africans together, we are much more mature and realistic about where we are as a nation today."

But the upcoming final and possibility of raising the national outlook along with that trophy, holds a dose of common joy that this country badly needs - which these reactions to the Bokke making it to the final prove.
From the Bokke change room message to the viral meme of Faf de Klerk and James Ball in an onscreen 'air-kiss', the upcoming final has given South Africans a shared talking point, beyond the obvious concerns of crime and our shrinking economy. Similarly, making the final is part of a hard scrum towards pushing our country further into the positive spotlight on a major global stage, which can only bode well for a tourism sector that's smarting for a major event, similar to the Soccer World Cup, to sway lagging optimism within the private sector. And the Bokke are seeing and hearing all of these messages, with Captain Siya Kolisi saying, “We get all the messages from South Africa and it is really special to see how the people at home have bought into what we are doing here and how they are supporting us.”
So, if you've not yet felt the need to don a bit of green and gold, take a look at these... Go Bokke!
