Cape Town - Heavy rains that are flooding the Punda Maria and Shingwedzi roads in the Kruger National Parks have been welcomed by guests in the midst of the severe drought in SA.

Photos showing the heavy downpour in the camps were shared on the official SANParks - Kruger National Park Facebook page, where guests expressed their delight in the much-needed rain in the area.

Because of the heavy rains, visitors in the park are advised to be careful of flooding on various main roads.

The following images were taken at the Punda Maria gate and area:

Although the flooding may cause restrictions for visitors in the park, many SANParks Kruger National Park group members are thankful for the rain.

Anneline Wolvaardt Ferreira commented on one of the flooding photos saying, "Wonderful roadblock".

An image showing a thirsty hyena drinking rain water from a tar road, posted to SANParks Kruger National Park by Latest Sightings - Kruger, is also gaining traction on the Facebook group.
