Cape Town - As we get ready to bid farewell to what's been an intense year full of surprises, the Mother City is more than ready to give you a good time.

The city centre in itself is unique, the setup alone is an Instagram dream come true day or night, even if the traffic can be the stuff of nightmares (London or Paris can we get a witness) and there are certainly a few dark clouds lurking - not all the kind that will bring the rain the city desperately needs.

If you are visiting, please be aware of the water restrictions in place, with water to be used sparingly and taking a bath is an absolute no-go.

Tourism to the Mother City has seen a 29% year on year spike in 2016 and this year it has again been voted the greatest city on Earth - for a fifth consecutive year by more than 90 000 Telegraph readers in their Travel Award for 2017.

With tourism arrivals set to increase this peak season, Wesgro and the Western Cape Government have announced a new campaign to help tourists and the tourism industry save water
