Cape Town - In celebration of South African heritage and what makes being a local so lekker, we have compiled a list of events to attend. We may be a diverse country but together we make the 'rainbow nation'.

What will you be doing from 22 - 25 September 2017?

Cape Town

Cape Town is keeping it local and lekker with the event line up for the Heritage weekend. September is celebrated as tourism month and the #WeDoTourism campaign is launching a focus on local tourism to encourage South Africans to explore their own country. With that in mind - spend the heritage weekend, visiting new places. 

1. Gabriëlskloof Estate 

Offering a long-table braai feast on Heritage day - this is the place to be. It will consist of meat on the spit, snoek, muscles, roosterkoek, pap en sous and the tasty trimmings of a local braai. Melktert and malva pudding shall be served as desert. 

Venue: Gabrielskloof Estate

Date: 24 September 

Time: 09:00 - 17:00

Cost:  R350 per adult, R 100 per child.

In celebration of tourism month there will be Mzansi tapas tasters served at R 250 per could and includes 4 wine tasters.

2. Zeitz MOCAA museum 

The anticipated art museum will be launching during heritage weekend. Free tickets can be purchased here or at the door in order to attend the opening event - running from 22 -25 September 2017.

Venue: The Silo Hotel 

Date: 22 - 25 September 

Time: 13:00 - 18:00

3. In-Herit Festival 

Launching from 18 - 24 September, the Iziko museums will allow free entrance - depending on the museum. This allows you to experience SA history and heritage with the whole family as there will be an array of exhibitions to visit. 

Venue: Iziko Museum

Date: 18 - 24 September 

Time: Dependent on the museum.

Cost: Free ENTRANCE

4.  Ox Braai Farm Feast

Boschendal will be hosting a delicious Heritage Day feast - served on a long table in true farm house style. The feast will be held in the largest heritage garden in South Africa, the Rhone lawns. There will be live music and pony rides for the kids.

Venue: Boschendal Wine Estate

Date: 24 September 

Time: 12:00 - onward

Cost: R325 per adult, R 280 per child under 10 years. 

5. My Heritage 

Trace your heritage and expand your family tree at My Heritage. There will be tasty foods on offer and live music. 

Venue: Rust Cafe

Date: 24 September 

Time: 18:00 - 20:00

Cost:  R 80 at the door

6. Rock your Mojo Festival 

For the best in blues and rock music head to this festival on Heritage Day. From Pebbleman to Crimson House - there will be 14 different bands and performances. Many bands will be paying homeage to those who have made history in the blues and rock music industry. Tickets can be purchased here

Venue: Hillcrest Quarry

Date: 24 Sepetember 

Time: 14:30 - 22:00

Cost:  R 99 per person and R 120 at the door. 

7. Cape Town Fringe Festival 

A truly South African theatre experience presenting innovative and inspirational shows at this year's festival.

Venue: 14 different venues in Cape Town from Alma Cafe to Black Box theatre. 

Date:  21 September - 8 October 

Cost: Tickets can be purchased here

8. Braai Day Lunch 

Enjoy the farm-produced veggies and delicious braai at the Eight restuarant on Spier farm.

Venue: Spier, Eight Restaurant

Date:  24 September

Time: 12:00 - 15:00

Cost: R 400 per person

9. Hermanus Flower Festival 

The annual flower festival is in full bloom during heritage weekend - celebrating 60 years of Fernkloof Nature Reserve. There will be an array of flower displays, workshops and informative sessions at the festival. The Fynbos cafe will be open to grab a bite to eat during the festival. 

Venue: Fernkloof nature reserve 

Date: 22 - 25 September 

Time: 09:00 - 17:00

Cost:  R 25 per adult, R 10 pensioners and children under 12 FREE.
