Surrounded by towering trees, overlooking the Hout Bay Valley with mountains rising in the distance, Villa Verte feels like a fairy tale escape from the city.
Nestled next to the architectural marvel Maison Noir, this is a place where nature was the inspirational force behind its wooden finishings, concrete curves and green design.

At a base price of between R17 700 and R43 500 night for eight people (depending on the season), it's not only a secretive stay on the slopes of a mountain, but one where the spirit of art can be seen in almost every crevice. Photos, paintings and sculptures line the hallways, the latter sourced from the talent over at design house Southern Guild.

The house itself was designed by architect Thomas Leach - he's created many hospitality beauts like Sirocco, Harbour House restaurant at the V&A Waterfront and the Idiom Wines restaurant and visitor centre. Villa Verte was created to resemble a treehouse, focusing on natural shapes and kicking unnatural geometry out of the door.
It's made up of four rooms - Grand Master Agapanthus, Master Eucalyptus, Sansevieria and Strelitzia. All of the bedrooms have private balconies overlooking the valley, while the two master suites have their own lounges.

The Grand Master suite has an added study that overlooks the garden - a place that looks like it could inspire many a novel.
Each room is decorated with a unique wallpaper design - from exploding flowers to serene forests to locally-designed foliage. It gives the impression that you're living both inside and out - part of nature instead of separate from it.

Villa Verte can also be rented out for weddings and other events, and at an extra charge they can also organise a private chef, a private driver with an 11-seater car, a pre-stocked kitchen and organise any of the many activities that can be found in the area and the city.
Even if it's just a pipe dream, this villa is what architectural heaven must be like.
