SEE: Gibson Kente’s How Long? in the Playhouse Opera Theatre at the Natal Playhouse. The musical play is based on the death of Khulu as a result of police brutality and the oppressive apartheid bureaucracy. Forming one part of an original trilogy of political plays written by Kente, it was last performed in 1973 prior to it’s banning and Gibson Kente’s arrest. Conceived as a cultural work that reflected the material conditions of black people in SA, How Long? was at the fore of black consciousness in the arts. DO: Break out of the Sunday slumber and rock out hardcore with the Godmother and Peasant South Africa Tour 2018 at The Winston. Swedish hardcore metal rockers God Mother make a return to South Africa this year and they’re bringing back more of their passion and ferocity to Durban.
