The coming long Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to get to know the West Coast in all its wonderful, humble beauty.

As it is not really fair to attempt to experience this untouched part of SA that stretches up the Atlantic coast into Namibia in its fullness during a typical 2-day weekend, the 2 extra days that comes with Easter serves as the perfect opportunity for ‘West-Coasting’.

And since there there are so few holidays in 2015 (See: 2015: The year in holidays), it's best to make the most of this Easter Weekend.

The West Coast breakaway is perfect for families, regardless of their size.  It great for large groups of friends, and it’s perfect for people of all ages.

It’s also one of the most romantic places on earth, if dark blue oceans spilling onto endless stretches of untouched white shores are your thing…

Regardless of who you are, the West Coast will serve you well this Easter holiday – you’re guaranteed to return home well-rested, well-fed and with a salty sea breeze still in your hair.

This is how you need to go:

There are two roads leading to the lower part of the West; you start in Cape Town and follow the R27 or West Coast Road, up, and then come down on the more inland roads - or visa versa.  Either way, your bound to happen upon the most amazing gems of out country, as long as you know what you're looking for.

If you're a smart traveller, in ever sense of the word, you have to download the recently launched West Coast Way smart App to get the full West Coast experience, history and all. The app contains information about all the spots in the West Coast, and it plays the info in a audio stream through your vehicle's radio. It's like having your own tour guide traveller with, with the luxury of switching him/her on or off at your own leisure, and at your own pace.

So without further ado, here you go with the West Coast itinerary that will give you the best experience, with a flair of fabulous too...

Full steam up the coast on Friday

Get an early start and have breakfast at Ons Huisie in Bloubergstrand.
The look and feel and rich history of this tiny little restaurant will set the mood for a perfect West Coast holiday.

Stop over at the beach at Silwerstroomstrand and stretch your legs and, if you dare, take a dip in the Atlantic. The Silwerstroom Strand also have a play area for children, so if you're travelling with kids, this is a perfect stopover.

You can either pack a picnic to the Silwerstroom beach from home, or spend lunch and the afternoon wine-tasting at Groote Post. Pray that the Pork Belly is still on the menu at Hilda’s Kitchen at Groote Post

Alternatively, you can enjoy a true West Coast meal at the Boesmanland Plaaskombuis

Taking it slow on Saturday

It’s market day in the West Coast. Plan your travelling in the area to coincide with one of these markets happening in the area. Most of the markets end just after lunch, which is perfect as you will want to head on to your next destination in time to check-in and get comfortable before night falls...
