NEW YORK, USA - APRIL 28, 2018: Manhattan Bridge view from Dumbo, Yew York City. New York City is the most populous city in the United States of America.

You have seen it so many times before on Insta, people posing in Washington Street in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighbourhood. Here, one gets to enjoy one of the most epic views of the Big Apple, the perfect view of the Empire State Building framed by the legs of the Manhattan Bridge.

It is rather magnificent.

PICS: Christmas has arrived in the US with the lighting of the Rockefeller Centre tree

But Travel and Leisure reports that this view might soon only exist on Instagram, as there is a project in the works to construct a set of four towers, skyscrapers in fact, that will obstruct the view of the Empire State Building from the Brooklyn side of the river.

There are already petitions against this construction, both from residents in DUMBO as well as in Manhattan itself as current residents worry it will drive up rent significantly in the area, forcing long-time residents to seek alternative accommodation.

But can we claim the preservation of views?

Yes, says the NYC Historic Districts Council, arguing that the preservation of historic views is just as crucial and significant than preserving physical buildings or neighbourhoods.
