Whether you're in the mood for some thrilling roller-coaster action at Gold Reef City or are in need of some Cartoon Network action to liven things up, Jozi has plenty of exciting things to keep you cosy no matter the weather!

If you’re out and about in Jo'burg between 22 June and 17 July, keep your eyes peeled for one of the following events and attractions:


Cartoon Network Live

Big Concerts is bringing the kids channel to life on stage for the first time and will show off favourite characters from Ben 10, Adventure Time, Powerpuff Girls and The Amazing World of Gumball. It promises to delight kids and adults alike.

When: 3 - 15 July.

Where: Montecasino.

Cost: R175 - R390.

Turbine Art Fair

Appreciate the finer things in life with the Rand Merchant Bank at this art festival that's a come-together of artists and galleries from around the country to show off their work, and a perfect place to discover unique African art.

When: 12 - 15 July.

Where: Turbine Hall, Newtown.

Cost: R50 - R120, but R800 for the opening night which includes canapes and drinks.

Prime Circle            

Hot off their successful international album tour and their ‘Pretty like the Sun’ summer tour across Southern Africa, rock royalty Prime Circle will be celebrating their new 10-track album

When: 14 July 2018, 18:00 – 21:00.

Where: Barnyard Cresta.

Joburg Zoo

When: 08:30 - 17:30

Where: Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkview

Cost: R80 for adults, R50 for children and students with valid student cards. 

Defeat the school holiday boredom with a trip to the Joburg Zoo in Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkview. With a variety of awesome animals to see and learn about in addition to a host of great picnic spots and beautiful spaces, a trip here can be a fun-filled affair for families.

Northcliff Hill

When: Whenever you want!

Where: 16 Joseph Ave Randburg 

Cost: Free!

Get a refreshed view of your city with an easy trip up to the city’s second highest point. Traverse up Northcliff Hill and soak in the majesty and awe-inspiring wonder that is the Johannesburg skyline. With views of the CBD and Northern suburbs, it is a great place to get a truly impressive view.  Rope in the whole family and go in the evening for sundowners as you watch the city light up in the night sky.

Zoo Lake

When: 09:00 - 17:45

Where: Corner Jan Smuts Avenue and West World Street, Parkview

Cost: Free but boating and other activities have a charge. 

Despite its image, you needn’t spend a fortune to have a fun time with loved ones in Johannesburg. Pack a picnic basket and some blankets then head out and check out Zoo Lake. Walk your dog, take a leisurely boat or sit around and have a picnic - you can do it all here. With a variety of sporting amenities on site, restaurants and more - there is plenty to keep everyone busy on the cheap.

Joburg Botanical Gardens and Emmarentia Dam

When: Open from sunrise to sunset

Where: Main entrance on Olifants Road, Emmarentia

Cost: Free 

A short 6 kilometres outside of the Joburg CBD is the Emmarentia Dam and its surrounding botanical gardens.

The Johannesburg Botanical Gardens are made up of seven distinct gardens namely: The Herb Garden, the Hedge Garden, the Succulent Garden, the Shakespeare Garden, the Rose Garden, the Chapel Garden and the Arboretum. Providing a beautiful, verdant space for recreation and relaxation, Joburgers can look forward to a money-saving and fun way to keep everyone entertained over the school holidays.

Walter Sisulu Square

When: Weekdays 09:00 - 17:00, Weekends 09:00 - 14:00

Where: Corner Kliptown Valley Road and Union Road, Kliptown, Soweto

Cost: Free.

Check out Walter Sisulu Square in the heart of Kliptown, Soweto.  A vibrant space that is rich in history and township energy has been revitalised and rejuvenated recently. This is an excellent place to enjoy as a family during the school holiday break with a history-rich area as the site where the Freedom Charter was adopted in 1955.
