South Africans, if you've found local attractions to be a bit on the expensive side - September is your month.
Every year, Tourism Month is celebrated in September with the aim to promote domestic and international tourism - with more affordable (don't miss the discounts during Travel week from 24 to 30 September) and annual free offers getting locals out and about.
Beyond just the global events such as the Ironman 70.3 World Championship and the International Rugby game between SA and Australia at the end of September - proving that Nelson Mandela Bay has full capacity to host large-scale international events, the Bay has much to offer visitors.
It certainly is a cultural-tourism hotspot - with Route 67. Adding to the accessibility of Heritage month, visitors can enjoy a free 1-hour Route 67 guided tour at the Donkin Reserve throughout

You can gain deeper insight into SA’s history with Route 67, also within walking distance of the Donkin Heritage Trail and Reserve.
At the starting point is Port Elizabeth’s iconic Campanile memorial, which was relaunched in 2017, boasting breathtaking views, an art gallery and state-of-the-art bells.
Further along Route 67, you will come across Madiba’s quotes inscribed along walls - each representing a year in his 67-year struggle for democracy, and this eventually leads to the Voting Line Sculpture representing the democratic victory for South Africans.
