Experience Hermanus and the Hemel-Aarde valley, known for its sublime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, in an unexpected way with walks designed to inform and stimulate all the senses.

Walk from mountainside to countryside, crossing farm roads, vineyards and mountain trails while learning about the area’s historical narratives and unique flora and fauna. Plus... there's food and wine pitstops along the way! Heavenly.

Hiking is basic: Walking. Nature.

That’s it.

However, hiking expert Tim Lundy has upped the ante, dressing it up in couture and feeding it caviar. Tim and his wife, Gillian call it Glamtrails.

Expect nature in abundance, history, family, food, wine (good wine!) – guided by Tim, over the course of a few hours. Walks range between 4-7 km and from strolls to more strenuous uphill walks for the more advanced hiker.

I trekked the 7km Fernkloof Nature Reserve route with Tim. Starting at the reserve, you walk along well-maintained paths that lead to an elevation of 321m.

The walk of approximately 2.5 hours gets you to Hamilton Russell for a wine tasting. Then it's through the pine forest, past the horse stables and you land at the stunning Bouchard Finlayson for even more wine! The perfect reward at the end of the hike's finish line. Oh, and then there was lunch at Newton Johnson wine farm. Meet the family who make the wine and indulge in the historical narratives of this region.
