Cape Town - Either we know someone or we are that 'someone' who is always "five minutes away", with excuses of being caught in traffic but meanwhile they decided to leave home the same time the actual lunch date with friends was planned.

Well that's about to end, as Google Maps has announced a new feature that reveals your real-time location, which is available on both iOS and Android. Admittedly users need to send their location to others in order to let them know when they'll arrive - in real time - but this forces you to show up where exactly where you're supposed to be

But ultimately Google's new feature lets you get to your destination faster with real-time updates, as you beat the traffic with automatic re-routing based on live traffic, incidents, and road closures. To top all, it even has offline maps to search and navigate without any internet connection.

How to use the app?

Open the side menu or tap the blue dot that represents where you are.

Click “Share Location” option, which will then let you choose who to share with, whether that's a Google contact or anyone you're in touch with on messenger apps.

After you send it, the other person will be able to see you on their map. While you're actively sharing your location, there will be an icon above the compass.

You can also share your location while in navigation mode, and the other person can get updates on when you'll arrive - sharing mode ends once you arrive.
