Let's face it, travel can be expensive - even booking domestic flights on a normal carrier for a family of four can sit in the region of R10k - depending on seasonality and actual travel days chosen.
Which makes the latest offering for more attainable and affordable travel, rather useful. If you've struggled to make that holiday savings fund a reality, then you might want to check out the new interest-free model launched by Club Travel's leisure division - called the 'Pay Your Way' payment option.
The long standing travel company, in operation since 1987, issued a release confirming Club Travel's rebranding of its leisure brand to be run by Cape Town-based online travel agency, FlightSite - of which it owns 50%.
Through the new offering, locals will now be able to book holiday escapes, sports-oriented travel packages and flights - with complete control over their repayment plan.
Choosing the instalment plan means the booking will be secured at the rate displayed at the time of booking, offsetting any risks of fluctuating prices. Full payment must be made at least 30-days before departure.
They obviously offer traditional credit and debit card means of direct payment too - but this lay-buy hybrid speaks to those who prefer not to rack up any major debt - with fluctuating interest rates. And sure, it's not a revolutionary payment model - but it's always good to have options.
The relaunch includes several new features aimed at making it easier for people to travel, including an 'Inspire Me' tool - designed for people who want to travel but are unsure where they’d like to go.
You can insert specific criteria, namely budget and desired dates of travel, and it will offer you destination options based on those specifics. As we said, options.
They will also be running a host of specials during the launch period. I had a look at the main featured Mauritius package deal.
It offers a 5-star stay at the popular Sugar Beach Golf and Spa resort for 7 nights from R29 700 per person including flights - valid for travel between 06 to 21 December 2019.
With their new pay your way system - you would be able to pay it off in six months at an interest free rate of about R4 950. It gets more expensive if you're more than one person though.
The Inca Trail 7-night tour is another option being promoted. This is a land-based deal, meaning you would need to secure your flights separately. In order to have flights included in the Club Travel Pay Your Way instalment plan, you would have to send them an inquiry with your specific dates and this will be booked separately.
This deal is valid for selected departures from October 2019 to March 2020. The overall package, including vat and excluding flights, would cost about R19 370 per person and can be managed over 12 months at R1 615 per month.
Note: These prices were reflected at the time of my search, 15/05/2019.
