If you really want to save cash on your next big holiday, the annual Travel Expo is THE place to get the best deals on tours, flights and other tourism endeavours.
But it's always been limited to the lucky ones in Johannesburg - the rest of the country just enviously looked on as Gauteng shoppers boasted with their savings online. And there were many - the event reportedly attracted 30 000 visitors and over R50-million in travel sales in just one weekend.

Over 70% of bookings were for international holidays, and top destinations included Mauritius, Thailand, Australia, the US and Indonesia.
But for its 10th anniversary, organisers Flight Centre will be changing it up. The 2020 Travel Expo will be a pop-up event, with deals available at all 121 Flight Centre and Cruiseabout stores across the whole country.
It will run over the last weekend of February - from 28 February to 1 March - thankfully after payday.
Big uptake in cruise holidays
“Demand for cruises have increased year on year,” adds Sara Park, marketing campaign manager at Cruiseabout, a division of the Flight Centre Travel Group.
“Cruising remains one of the most value-for-money holidays, with a huge variety of cruises to appeal to every age and interest. Local and regional cruises are always immensely popular. Still, we predict more interest in alternative options, such as river cruising, boating holidays and bucket-list trips to eco-conscious destinations such as India, the Amazon and Galapagos Islands.”

The organisers also predict domestic travel deals will be hugely popular due to unpredictable rand exchange rates.
