Get your arts and crafts on at one of these vibrant art festivals set to make a splash on South Africa's canvas in 2019.

From watching the birth of artworks live to dancing in reckless abandon along to its destruction - there are various kinds of art events in store for 2019.

Whether you're looking for visual art, performance art or wish to appreciate and indulge in its literary variety - one of these five upcoming iconic SA art fests are sure to pique your curiosity.

International Public Art Festival (IPAF) 

Dip your paintbrush into this nifty art fest. This initiative is hosted by the NGO BAZ-ART and offers local and international artists a unique opportunity to showcase their art and messages around a specific theme and upon a global platform.

The 2019 theme will focus on the future and responsibility of present and successive generations to create a better world for all.

There will be guided tours, workshops and members of the public will be able to see local and international artists in action as they produce their works.

Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK)

Be sure to check out what is undoubtedly one of the most popular festivals in South Africa, mainly because it gives people the opportunity to spend a long weekend in the heart of SA's iconic Little Karoo. Afrikaburn 

Shed the shackles of real life and enter the transcendent world of AfrikaBurn - where art comes to life in the middle of nowhere ready to transport you to another dimension.

As with each year since it started in 2007, AfrikaBurn takes place on Stonehenge Farm in the Tankwa Karoo in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. A year’s worth of anticipation, dreaming, planning, building and creating comes together to create Tankwa Town, a temporary city formed from the imaginations of its participants (that’s you).

National Arts Festival

Cape Town - Get your creative juices flowing as you get in gear for the 45th National Arts Festival set to take place between 27 June and 7 July 2019. 

Over 11 days, the world’s arts spotlight shifts to the small Eastern Cape city of Grahamstown, which has been renamed to Makhanda, for a festival packed with theatre, dance, visual and performance art, film, music and more.
