Cape Town - One of my favourite memories as a child - packing the car and heading towards Hermanus for a whale of a time with the whole family. Enjoying the first taste of sunny Western Cape weather and getting a sneak peak at the ocean's magnificent giants, browsing the craft stalls nestled between remaining fisherman houses, curiously eyeing the whale crier's every move and possibly even taking the old faithful boogy board for a spin at Grotto Beach..

Hermanus and the Whale Fesival have, however, evolved immensely over the past couple of years and now attracts masses of visitors from all walks of life. Festival goers are treated to an enticing programme, accompanying the main stars of the show, our beloved Southern Rights and Humpbacks.

Family friendly activities, scrumptious seafood and loads of fresh sea air, along with the jubilantly splashing tails of southern rights in the Bay welcomes one and all to Hermanus. The three-day festival boasts a selection of food, music, theatre and sporting events that will cater for all audiences. But at the end of the day, it's the southern rights that bring everyone together at the old harbour area in Hermanus - the best land-based whale watching spot in the world.
