The Tropic of Capricorn is one of the five major latitude circles that divide up our earth, and it also makes for a thrilling bucket list itinerary around the southern hemisphere.
But what does the latitude mean? According to Britannica, it's the southernmost point that the sun is directly overhead Earth, which accounts for the summer solstice on 21 December that marks the longest day of the year for this side of the planet.

The tropic has also become an explorer's dream route - there was even a BBC show with Simon Reeve that travelled this line around the world. All the countries it travels through have markers designating its route, some with extravagant monuments while others just have a simple road sign.
This would be one of the most insane road trips in the world, and if you don't have the cash or time to do the whole round-the-world journey, you could always try and finish the Southern Africa section of the circle.
