Whether you are riding the Dr Evil Classic or headed to the Plettenberg Bay and Knysna area for a relaxing getaway, this is a list of things to do on the Garden Route this Heritage Day weekend:
Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve
Why not spend some time being driven around on a two-hour game drive on a 2200 hectare reserve at the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. At a cost of R490 per person, these guided safaris are a great way for interested visitors to the area to, with the assistance of the knowledgeable game rangers, encounter different many species of antelope, giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodiles and even the Big 5.
After the drive, visitors can chill out at the Baroness Safari Lodge, the country house on the property, and allow yourself to be enamoured by the beautiful views over the gorge and of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.

Considered to be South Africa's premier venue for equestrian events, Kurland will play host to the SA 2018 Adult Eventing Champs from 21 to 23 September. Visitors to this three-phase event can expect show-jumping, cross-country and dressage to keep all your equine needs satisfied.
Need a brief respite from all the action? No problem! Visitors have an outdoor market to browse and even Thai food to enjoy while young ones can jump to their heart's content on the jumping castle. Make sure to visit the estate on one of the days to see the show.

Rest and relax at the river
If you're looking for some rest and relaxation on the Garden Route, then consider staying over at a room on the Bitou river at the Plett River Lodge. On the Saturday night of the Heritage Day weekend, their on-site restaurant - Down to Earth - will have a special that includes a meal for two and a bottle of red or white wine for R250.

Perhaps it is not calm and serenity that you seek. If that is the case, visitors to the Garden Route on the Heritage Day weekend are in for a treat with the Dr Evil Classic mountain biking action taking place.
Whether you are supporting riders who start their day 3 of the Dr Evil Classic on the Saturday 22nd, or you bring the bikes and the family to enjoy the pump tracks and cafe on Cairnbrogie Dairy Farm, this will be a great place for an active outing - the bike park has become extremely popular with riders of all ilks, and the vibe of the race village on the Saturday will make for a fun day out.

You don't really need it to be a long weekend to enjoy the Garden Route as the area offers a vast assortment of activities and experiences to be enjoyed.
