We're all rather familiar with load shedding by now, keeping candles, matches lights and torches close by for the inevitable event.

Yes, it's pretty annoying and, sure, we do deserve better, but sometimes taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture can help us feel better.

In this case, a beautiful time-lapse video from 2015 shot by Cape Town photographer Eric Nathan, might just do the trick.

The video starts off with what doesn't look like a too dark Cape Town, as cars' headlights move through the streets and reflect off buildings.

But then about 7-seconds in, the lights all switch on and you can see a major difference...

In a post on Facebook, Nathan wrote:

"It was truly fascinating to observe the city of Cape Town without power during tonight's load shedding. Who needs Earth Hour when you have Eskom?"
