Travelling takes on another level when you have to do it with little ones in tow. As trends see Experience Travel being valued far more than things or objects, the practicalities of those experiences certainly also factor in quite significantly, especially for travelling families.

Knowing which service providers aim to be the most family-friendly is one step closer to a seamless trip.

The latest survey from takes a look at the crucial air-travel leg of this journey - as they have researched and ranked popular airlines to reveal which are the most family-friendly. Because let's face it flying with young children is far from easy, particularly if you have an infant on your lap and fidgety five-year-old next to you.

The services and amenities of 36 International Airlines were taken into account during the survey and looked at the following.

  • Priority boarding
  • Baggage allowances
  • On-board entertainment options
  • Seat comfort
  • Food
  • Average delays
  • On-board WiFi

All of the above was then weighted overall to create an overall family-friendly score.

Etihad Airways came out on top overall scoring well in both short-haul and long-haul route rankings. The airline was just two short/ mid-haul airlines to offer onboard WiFi. They also came out on top for seat comfort providing the most legroom and the widest seats– perfect for travelling with a baby-in-tow.

Etihad Airlines, Air Canada and Qatar Airlines battled it out in the top three for both the long and short/ mid-haul rankings. These airlines offered the most family-friendly amenities including in-flight TV, child-friendly food and comfy seating.

Reigo Eljas, Country Director for UK at says, “When travelling with your family, there is that extra bit of research we recommend you do before booking – can I take my foldable pushchair and/or car seat on-board for free? Will the airline keep my child entertained with kids TV, films and games? These are commonly asked questions by many parents when planning their holiday flights.”
