Qantas defines a Free stop as follows - "Base fare remains the same, pax only pays the airport taxes for the additional cities visited. Max 2 Australia cites (one in each direction) can be added to the itinerary. Conditions apply."
But essentially you could add on a city-stop on either your arrival and departure - allowing you to explore the breadth of Australia in one trip. You can choose to only one city stop too.

When departing SA from Johannesburg, you will fly the Boeing 747 on this route, with Qantas possibly bringing one of its Dreamliners on the route in 2020.
Qantas, an acronym for the airlines original name - Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service, is also nicknamed "The Flying Kangaroo".
