Cape Town - Carlson Rezidor, one of the most dynamic hotel groups worldwide, announced on Wednesday that the very first Radisson Red Hotel in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), is set to open at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town in 2016.

The group’s new upscale lifestyle select brand chose to launch in Cape Town, South Africa, as the V&A Waterfront already has 24 million visitors per year, making it one of Africa’s most visited cultural and historical hubs on the continent and EMEA region.

The Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront Cape Town will be operated by The Rezidor Hotel Group, that already runs 5 hotels in the city.

"Set on the edge of a natural harbour with the Table Mountain as its backdrop," the hotel group brags, "the V&A Waterfront offers a cosmopolitan mix of experiences ranging from shopping to exclusive entertainment".

The V&A Waterfront's harbour is also set for an upgrade, in which the cruise terminal will be moved and revamped to make for a more appealing water entrance into the Mother City.

The new Port Gateway Precinct plan, a brand new overhaul plan for the V&A Waterfront area, promises the construction a dedicated cruise terminal. The terminal is set to include arrival and departure facilities, and will allow much easier access to tourist attractions around the city.

The first Radisson Red hotel, the Radisson Red Shenyang Hunan, was commissioned in China, and now the Carlson Rezidor groups hopes that the first hotel in the entire EMEA region will give the new brand both local and global visibility, and adding a vibrant new concept to the world class V&A Waterfront destination.

The new Radisson Red hotel will focus on their offering to millennial travellers, offering mid-range to luxury suites, explains the President and CEO of Rezidor, Wolfgang Neumann. "The trends of the hotel aims to be highly connected space, with a high-octane design and savvy millennial lifestyle”, he explains.

David Green, CEO of the V&A Waterfront, said they are delighted to have the first hotel in EMEA at the V&A Waterfront. "We believe an internationally branded and marketed hotel will add to our existing portfolio and meet the increasing demand for such accommodation," he says. "In addition, this new concept is key to the continued development of the district and its mixed-use appeal.’’

The Radisson Red Hotel V&A Waterfront will form part of the new “Silo District” of the V&A Waterfront that will also be home to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA).

This museum, that is designed by Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studio in London, is scheduled to open in late 2016 as well. Art connoisseurs already place MOCAA in the same category as the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

The site is also located in walking distance of the Cape Town Convention Centre (CTICC) which hosts all major meetings and events in the city.
