Cape Town - South African fine dining has been taken to new heights - literally! A new craze has adventurous fine diners strapping on roller-coaster belts and eating and drinking fine food and wine more than 40 meters in the sky!

Yes, you heard right.

An international events company,, has had major success all over the world with their uppety events. The new concept is the brainchild of two Belgian companies, namely Hakuna Matata agency and The Fungroup.

During the dinners, a crane hoists up a dining table up more than 40 meters in the sky to give guests a panoramic view of the city they're dining in. Dinners have been hosted in great cities like London, Istanbul, Monaco, Las Vegas and yes, Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Walk home every night and see this floating restaurant... One of the best ideas ever! #dininginthesky #restaurant #london #canarywharf #michelinstar #amazing #genius

The cranes that lift the 5 ton tables are more than 11 meters tall and weigh about 120 tonnes, with this weight suspended over 5 axes on ground level.

The sky high dining table can hold 22 guests per sitting, as well as a maximum of 5 staff and/or chefs. The roller-coaster like chairs in which the diners are strapped are equipped with 4-point seatbelts and are able to rotate 180° to ensure comfortable communication while dining. There are also small footrests underneath the chairs for the diners' feet.

The only downside, however, is that there's no mile high restrooms. If you can't hold it, the entire crane should be lowered and lifted again. Remember that when you're throwing back those bubblies at that altitude...

If you want to part of the next Dining in the Sky experience, you're in luck. Plenty of events are coming to Fairway Hotel and Golf Resort from the 18th of October onwards.

This event's menu has delectable breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner offerings boasting la-di-da options like confit duck leg with forest mushrooms, frittatas and fish goujons with tartare sauce, among other things. The experience, including the food, will cost you between R220 and R590.

It's essential to book your ticket.
