Skywise suspended, passengers stranded

Cape Town - Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) stated on Wednesday morning, 2 December, that Skywise Airline has been suspended from operating at ACSA airports.

The move comes after weeks of uncertainty in which in which the airline has changed its schedule and cancelled flights without keeping passengers informed properly. 

A frustrated Skywise passenger, Yanni Yang, also told Traveller24 that, after weeks of queries on outstanding refunds from Skywise, his "father went to the Cape Town International Airport [on Wednesday] morning to request the refund. He was accompanied by the police.

"The Skywise employee and the police stated that Skywise is in the process of liquidation, filing for bankruptcy and [therefore] cannot refund him."

Passengers who were booked with the airline, tweeted that the 06:00 flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg and 09:00 from Johannesburg to Cape Town did not take off.

Skywise Airline's social media feed, however, reflect nothing of the suspension. Their last tweet ‏on Tuesday, 1 December, invited passengers to book a seat.

On their website, passengers cannot book flights as they claim the seats have been 'sold out'.


Tweets suggest that the airline was grounded due to unpaid airport charges. On 13 October this year, Acsa confirmed it had no option but to suspend Skywise due to outstanding debt from the airline dating back to August 2015.
