A small minority along China’s ‘Black Dragon’ river have a long history with the water.

According to legend, the Hezhen people descend from mermaids, but now some of their unique traits, such as their signature fish skin suits, are at risk of vanishing.

But a few are trying to keep it alive by teaching this dying craft to younger generations.
