Social media can often drive us to do the craziest things, like put ourselves in harm's way for a selfie or even rent out bottles at high-end nightclubs to look like a baller with the results ranging from hilarious to disastrous.

Almost nowhere is social media as influential in the lives of many young people as in the travel space of far-flung and beautiful locations inducing the envy of millions following the #travel hashtag. There has been evidence to suggest that Instagram and other social media sites even influence where we go and what we do when travelling.
For those of us, however, who have no choice but to keep our feet on the ground and watch other people jet off around the world, there is some consolation - you can at least look like you're travelling even if you're not.
