Was 2018 a good travel year? Snapped up some stunning pics along the way?

Then perhaps you should submit your best snaps to this year's National Geographic 2019 Travel Photo Contest.

CHECK OUT THE WINNERS FROM LAST YEAR: 2018 Travel Photographer of the Year

They're looking for the best in nature, cities and people, and the grand prize winner will pocket $7 500 and a post on National Geographic's travel Instagram account - which means an avalanche of followers and cash for more travels!

In addition, a first, second and third place winner will be chosen from each category, and the winning photographs will also feature on the account. They will each win $2 500, $1 500 and $750 in order.

The nitty gritty:

  • Entries start at $10 per entry and will increase $5 per week after 24 March.
  • All entries must be in digital format and submitted electronically.
  • The contest will end on 3 May at 18:00 SA time, and the winner will be announced in June.
  • There is no limit to how many entries you want to submit.
  • You can submit your photos at the contest website.

“The photo contest is a great way for photographers to showcase their photographic ability — from all corners of the world — and highlight the unique moments in time they capture in their own lives,” says National Geographic director of Instagram and one of the judges for this year’s contest, Josh Raab.

“I look forward to seeing fresh perspectives from a large range of photographers that push the boundaries of photography.”
