Where you stay can make a massive difference. If it's too loud and busy, it might put a damper on your mood during most of your trip. While a quiet, pleasant 'hood could elevate you to new heights.

Gezira Island

Actually an island found on the River Nile, this is the perfect neighbourhood for those who want to avoid all the chaos of this busy city, says Culture Trip. It's a very compact 'hood so it's easy to stroll around the area, discovering some nice galleries, restaurants and cafes along the river. Here, you'll also be blessed with fantastic views of the city skyline. 

Zamalek

Part of Gezira Island, this is an affluent area home to the rich and some expats. Expect a lovely green 'hood with boutiques, hotels and restaurants with high prices.

Pyramids

Located in Giza, the Pyramids area, or Haram, is ideal for those seeking that perfect view. Expect a range of luxe hotels as well as some budget options in this area.

New Cairo

Perfect for business travellers as it is one of the city's newest neighbourhoods with a lot of company headquarters located here. Also home to some fantastic malls like Point 90 and Downtown Mall, you can grab a quick bite to eat here and some gifts for the kids on the go. 

Maadi

Home to embassies and expats, this area is calm and more upmarket. Go check out one of its best features, the Maadi Corniche promenade. Also be sure to take a felucca ride, as this area has some of the most beautiful views in the city. 

Downtown

Ideal for budget travellers, this area has a lot of budget accommodation and a wide variety of good eateries for cheap. Good for solo travellers and backpackers. It is close to the Egyptian Museum and Tahrir Square - Cairo's infamous town square. 

Agouza

This area has a very local feel. It's safe, and has a magnitude of sidewalk cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. Also expect a lively evening vibe with excellent entertainment spots dotted around the area, says Best Location Hotels.
