It's SA Tourism Month and the Eastern Cape is the province to watch! 

World Tourism Day itself is today, Thursday, 27 September and the EC has plenty in store to build up hype. This annual event places the spotlight on the importance of fostering awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

The Department of Tourism is teaming up with the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (DEDEA), South African Tourism (SAT) and the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) to host a range of media events to celebrate World Tourism Day.

The events lined up are drawing inspiration from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) World Tourism Day theme: Tourism and the Digital Transformation. The organisers hope that the event will highlight the value of domestic tourism as well as the role of digital transformation in growing and inclusive and sustainable tourism economy.

The media events went as follows:

MINISTERIAL IMBIZO – 6-DAY HIKING TRAIL: 

Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, joined by the Executives of the EC Province to host an Imbizo to engage the community from Port St Johns, Mpande, Mngazana and Mngcibe on tourism issues - in particular the community benefication of the signature 6-Day Hiking Trail that has been recently refurbished by the department.

TOURISM AWARENESS BLITZ: 

This event will saw the department conduct a blitz in Mthatha to interact with members of the public and create an awareness about the value of tourism to the local economy. The theme for this one was Do Tourism Responsibly and looked to promote responsible tourism practices ahead of the festive season through their activations.

GO Road tripping for the hops: Craft breweries of Eastern Cape 

WORLD TOURISM DAY CELEBRATIONS: 

The Department along with the EC Province will join the world in hosting festivities in celebration of World Tourism Day. You can expect a range of entertainment, exhibitions and stalls highlighting the best of EC's tourism and cultural offerings at this fun event.
