Top restaurants across Jozi to try this summer

The city of gold is filled with gems on every corner, from art museums to botanical gardens and food, lots and lots of food.

The American Express Dining Awards has searched through the country looking for the best eateries. The first leg of the awards ceremony was held in Cape Town where they announced the biggest award of the evening-American Express Restaurant of the Year Award, which went to Cape Town’s The Test Kitchen.

The programme has included new categories to accommodate the variety of flavours found in the country. "There’s been nothing short of a revolution in the local restaurant industry in recent years,” says Chris Wood, Head of American Express South Africa. Mzansi's top restaurants stack up against the best in the world and our different cultures make for some of the most unique fusions in the culinary world.  

Johannesburg played host for the second leg of the awards and some of the best restaurants in the northern, central and eastern region, were announced. Not sure what to do with your weekends? Here are the top restaurants to visit this summer

Situated conveniently next to Johannesburg Lanseria Airport, this family restaurant provides the perfect city-meets-country atmosphere. The fresh food is prepared using ingredients picked from their own garden. If you want to escape the city for just one night immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Culinary Table Restaurant.

Epicure is literally the best of both worlds, a fine-dining spot and a restaurant that serves African street food, what more could you possibly ask for? The variety the establishment offers has earned it its success over the years.

Discreetly tucked away in Johannesburg suburbs, the Grei is the home of sophistication and succulent meals. Enjoy fine dining away from the busy city.

Situated in the Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, the Marble is a celebration of contemporary South African cuisine with a flair. The dishes are prepared over an open fire, staying true to the country's tradition.
