WATCH: A decadent retreat to one of Cape Town's iconic stays, the Twelve Apostles

As you leave central Cape Town behind, heading towards The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa on a late afternoon -with the dramatic lashings of the Atlantic Ocean on the right and the majestic namesake mountains to the left - it is easy to expect a decadent retreat.

But if you're thinking of a deserted and overly-quiet spot given its location, don't be fooled.

As one of Cape Town's longest standing hotels, it offers a sense of escaping entirely from the buzz of the city centre, despite being a stone's throw away. And yet, its selection of palate-pleasing dining spaces pulsates with locals, international travellers and a wonderful mix of in-house guests and those after a special evening spoil.

The Leopard Bar is especially vibey, offering fun craft beer or gin tastings - which are an experience in itself. Their resident mixologists literally handpick the botanical fynbos infusions from in and around the hotel.

Checking in for the weekend is certainly the way to go, if you want to fully indulge in the spoils on offer.

And tranquillity can certainly be found. A booking at the spa either for a soak in its flotation salt tank, heated spa pools or for a massage ensures this. Take it up a notch by booking a massage in one of the cocooned outdoor massage pods. Watch the video above to see what we mean.

Offering a host of bespoke packages and events - the Journey through the Cape wine-pairing dinner being one to experience at Azure - they showcase the best of the SA's winelands through sumptuous cuisine pairings. This was the reason for our visit and it did not disappoint - watch our Instagram highlight here. Azure almost feels like an extension of the ocean with its dramatic, deep blue, draped decor. And as with the Leopard Bar, attentive staff ensure you're well taken care of.

Serving up the best of the Mother City and maximising the hotel's prime positioning and convenience, this package also includes a day excursion to the Hemel-en-Aarde wine estate of Bouchard Finlayson.
