High tea is one of those niggly colonial leftovers that people love to indulge in from time to time in order to feel a little classy - or even royal. But high teas tend to be quite the same everywhere.

Cucumber sandwiches, Earl Grey tea and scones are a staple, not the most locally-inspired fare.

A Very High Tea has a little more South African flair.

After a quick ride up the cable car to Cape Town's glittering jewel - Table Mountain - we headed to the WiFi Lounge right at the top for our first high tea - that's actually really, really high up.

Met with sparkling wine on a long table that has panoramic views of the city (perfect for those skyline Insta-toasts), I have never heard people so excited to not see sandwiches on a high tea menu.

Instead, the chef has a menu prepared that's quite delectable, from salmon trout pannequet, lentil bobotie bites and blue cheese and pickled pear puffs to lemon meringue tartlets and - the most delicious thing that will ever grace your taste buds - peanut butter brownie cheesecake.

I still have high dreams about that last one.
