Shy and tiny duikers are often running away from the slightest threat.

So you can only imagine how terrified - and confused - this baby duiker was to be trapped in the paws of a leopard, and then licked and played with by the predator.

Latest Sightings shared footage showing how a young duiker was pinned tightly by a leopard, then licked and cuddled for a bit before it tried escaping which is said to have led to its inevitable death.

The video of the little Sub-Saharan antelope caught by the usually vicious feline predator was captured by teacher and tour guide, Charles Nel, in the Kruger National Park near the camp of Byamiti.

Nel recalls that the group he was with noticed a male klipspringer standing "dead-still on a rock" and looking towards the right. "Suddenly a shrill scream rang out and we glanced towards where the klipspringer was staring. Next moment a leopard jumped up onto the rock with a baby duiker in its jaws,” says Nel.

"It all happened so fast, there wasn’t really time for emotions. I was surprised to see that the cute duiker wasn’t bleeding and that the leopard was just holding it, like a cat playing with a mouse,” he adds.

“The leopard lay there licking the duiker, which must have been terrifying for the poor thing. Unfortunately, we were unable to know what happened to the young buck as we had to move away for other vehicles to view the sighting," says Nel.

However, based on other reports, "the tragic inevitable happened"…

“It was honestly a jaw-dropping sighting to have witnessed. Nature certainly knows how to keep your heart pounding in your chest,” adds Nel.
