Are you like the gang of Friends or How I Met Your Mother, hanging out at the same bar or restaurant every Friday or Saturday night? That Cheers 'where everybody knows your name' feeling has massive appeal, of course. It's nice to be a regular. It's nice when the barman knows your name and signature drink.

But, there's also a case to be made for going anonymous. Venture into the far-flung corners of your city - those spots you haven't yet discovered, tried and tested.

Here are just a few to give a go:

The perfect first date spot, Mix Cocktail Bar in Rosebank is a delight. A great destination stop in the Keyes Art Mile, this is THE place to have a cocktail after work or over the weekend.

Mootee Bar in Melville is an authentic, unconventional interpretation of modern Africa ingredients and customs - so expect potent African flavours in tall drinks. It is unique in that it is 100% bartender-owned.

Cape Town

Dark Horse on Kloof is not only a bar, but also has a rooftop bar! And if anything, we know that Capetonians love a view of the mountain while holding a cold one. This place has a lot of vibe, colour, cosy couches and comfort food.

The Gigi Rooftop is a rooftop experience of note. Situated atop the Gorgeous George Hotel close to St George's Mall, it's a beautifully inviting space, with excellent service and attention to detail.

Lucky Shaker has some Central American charm and a laid-back feel. Plus, most importantly, some of Umhlanga's best cocktails!

Inspired by the rolling sugar cane hills of the KZN North Coast, the Alchemy at Blackstrap Craft Distillery in Ballito, is lit. They love all things gin so be sure to try a gin-cocktail with some friends after work in this relaxed setting.
