My boys are gamers. Fortnite is a massive thing for them and I’m all too aware, as a parent who works in digital, of the need to balance device time with creative play.
This is one of the main reasons I'm simply blown away by the Tree House experience at Boschendal Wine Estate. And my boys, aged 7 and 9, loved it more.
Free Range Kids
As an Edu-care centre, It is focused on eco-farm activities, from making fires, composting, recycling, foraging to getting to know the farm animals. The facilities are geared especially for kids, aged 4 to 14 yrs, and the locker room setup tells you this from get go. The entrance to the kitchen, leading to the organic garden outside, is even a few dimensions smaller than usual - meaning as an adult you get the reverse perspective of living in world not quite made for you. Valuable reminder for us as parents with the really little ones.
And they're really going to love the idea that they get to be kids in all their messy glory, with creative play that gets them connected to the soil and earth encouraged.
The facility is a complimentary service to families overnighting at the Boschendal boutique accommodation or patrons dining at Werf restaurant. See more in the video above.
This lets you enjoy a relaxed time, because sometimes we really just need a good break from constantly checking and watching that they're entertained, not in danger or about to knock something over - but all the while knowing your children are in safe hands and loving the experience while there.
Wine-tastings and picnic fun
We indulged in a wine-tasting while the boys had fun. There is a selection of five on offer at the Werf - read more about that here. there is also a relaxed Deli for those wanting to something scrumptious to enjoy.
The upcoming school holiday period will see the Tree house team unpacking a weekly calendar of supervised activities at special holiday programme rates.
But day visitors can still expect to have a super time wine-tasting and relaxing – with added free fun for the kids. They often have live entertainment on the lawns as well as bespoke markets on Friday nights, along with a stack of huge beanbags to make chilling out under the oaks so inviting. There are portable coffee and drinks stations on the lawns too.
