You may have walked by the location multiple times. Unbeknownst to you, the rooftop plays host to relaxed evenings where melodies float about and the people recline in their seats, enjoying the sunset over the city of Cape Town.
At least this is the most recent iteration of Airbnb's Music Experiences, held atop the Grand Daddy Hotel's rooftop trailer park.
Bringing to South Africa the highly anticipated music-based experiences, this Rooftop Trailer Park Concert, took place on the 15th of November.
Launching its Music Experiences on its global trips platform, it offers access to intimate live music performances, underground nightlife and special experiences hosted by artists, industry professionals and those plugged into the local music scene. This new offering from Airbnb is but one of the many ways for travellers to find something unique and entertaining to do, wherever they are.
At present, the Music Experiences feature around the world, drawing out the specific local musical influences and genres of each neighbourhood. This experience, in particular, did well to capture the nuanced and varied sounds and influences of the Cape Town music scene.

On arrival, the event looked like your usual, non-descript Cape Town rooftop vibe but little did we know that this was to be anything but usual. Headed up to the venue, we were eagerly greeted by waiters and bar staff who were on hand to serve up an authentic South African beverage. In this case, a buchu-infused gin and tonic cocktail.
Settling easily into the relaxed environment, we waited for the sun to dip below the horizon and for the musical entertainment to begin. Luckily we didn't have to wait for too long, nor was the wait not worth it as guests were gently eased into the musical proceedings that would continue for the rest of the evening.
Guests were kept entertained by an eclectic fusion of the angelic musings of a harpist, a honey-voiced vocalist and the dramatic strings of a cellist. These symphonic sounds transported the guests into the wonderful world of stringed instrument and oratory delight.
This intimate space, with its limited guests, lent the event a feeling of exclusivity that added to the atmosphere while affording guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the musical entertainment without distraction.
If you're looking to be surprised and enjoy immersive music experiences in intimate spaces and cool venues, fret not as there are plenty of upcoming Airbnb Music Experiences to enjoy all around the city.
