Cape Town - Train and vintage machinery enthusiasts headed to the biennial Stars of Sandstone Steam and Heritage Festival from 4-14 April in 2019 can now travel to the Free State event in style onboard the luxurious Blue Train.
Described as the most diverse and amongst the most spectacular steam and heritage events in the world, the Sandstone Heritage Trust endeavours to save, restore and utilise heritage assets across a broad spectrum to live up to its motto of: “saving the best of the past for the future.”

Set in the magnificent Maluti Mountains, the award-winning Sandstone Estates will again provide world-class entertainment for all ages. The area is covered with cosmos flowers as far as the eye can see, has 30km of private railway track, steam trains, trek oxen, tractors, vintage vehicles and airplanes to provide fun for local as well as international visitors.
Next year the festival will also unveil a recently restored 1915 Baldwin US-built former SAR Class
NG-10 locomotive on 5 April, alongside 25 of its other operating trains.
The festival will be hosting the Blue Train for a 3-night, 4-day trip that includes two days at the Sandstone estate, travelling from Pretoria to Ficksburg in pampered accommodation. The package deal includes all accommodation, food and drinks, cognac, Cuban cigars and two day's entrance and shuttle service to Stars of Sandstone Festival from 3-6 April.
26 Suites are available on the train - 23 De Luxe and 3 Luxury - and each comes with a private butler service.
