Woke up to the reality of no December plans? It happens to the best of us.

Luckily, there are many ways to keep yourself entertained in your city, town and even in your own home.

Don't indulge in the FOMO on social media, unplug a bit as watching others 'live their best lives' online is a) painful, and b) often a complete inaccuracte representation of their lives.

I call sham.

So, don't through yourself a pity party, rather spend your forced staycation doing one or all of these things:

Set a daily goal

Whether it's something that sets a routine or a new thing for every day, have a plan. It's good to have one goal every day to create a sense of purpose during your stay-at-home holiday.

Whether this is a jog in a different neighbourhood every day, visiting a new coffee shop, bookstore or park or even heading on a daily outing to a surrounding town, National Park even, or hopping in the car for a quick road trip around the Cape Peninsula, getting up with intent is important.

Live in Vredehoek in Cape Town? Go jog in Sea Point...

Or ask a friend if they're keen to join you for a day trip to a small dorpie close by. Here are some great ones in the Eastern Cape.

Teach yourself something new

Always wanted to learn how to bake or improve your cooking skills? Or maybe start learning French?

Get stuck in. Use clever apps like Project Foodie to brush up on your knife skills or Duolingo and start learning the basics.

Hike

South Africa has fantastic hiking trails around every bend.

Take on the epic hike that is Table Mountain's three peaks or opt for Hennops Trail, on the doorstep of Jozi and Pretoria.

Go pool

Not everyone's lucky enough to just hop in an Uber and head to the beach for the day. Go cool off at a public pool or waterpark in your area or head to a rooftop pool somewhere in your city, get a drink, and chill the day away.

Go chill at the Red Roof at the Radisson Red Hotel, Silo District in Cape Tow or head to the roof-top pool at the San Deck Bar and Restaurant, Johannesburg.
