Forbes Travel Guide has included a host of South African hotels in its 2020 list, for the first time in the guides 62-year history.
As one of the most renowned rating systems for luxury hotels, restaurants and spas it is no easy feat being acknowledged on the list, with a five-star rating, requiring "virtually flawless service and amazing facilities".
Each year, Forbes Travel Guide inspectors visit every properties unannounced in order to evaluate a typical guest experience and the level of hospitality provided. The independent FTG auditors pay their own way and at no time is the hotel or staff aware of their visit.
This year, the Forbes Travel Guide 2020 marks the first edition that South Africa has been featured as a Forbes Five-Star venue. Sixteen countries have been added to the Forbes Travel Guide 2020 list, marking "the largest expansion in FTG’s 62 year history".
