Cape Town - The Mother City's world-renowned Charly's Bakery has been named by Buzzfeed as one of the Top 25 “Cupcake shops you need to visit before you die”.

Coincidentally, Charly's Bakery is also celebrating their 25th year of making their ever-popular 'Mucking Afazing' baked delights this year.

While we agree with Buzzfeed in that Charly's is one of the best bakeries to visit, they know nothing about the other awesome bakery gems that are located right around South Africa.

Here are our Top 5 favourite cupcakeries in the country ~

5. Kupcake Heaven - Umhlanga Rocks, Durban North

It's the variety of cupcakes that bowls over every time. Think Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge cupcakes, Strawberry Meringue cupcakes, Ferrero Rocher cupcakes and Lindt cupcakes... Yes, you'll die and go to Kupcake Heaven.

4. M Patisserie - Stellenbosch, Western Cape

Martjie Malan from the Afrikaans hit baking series Koekedoor runs this French-feel sweet spot in the heart of Stellenbosch.

3. Queen of Tarts - Observatory, Cape Town

Buy your cupcakes from the Queen herself in Obs, or attend one of her baking classes to learn to make your own - it's a win-win, really.

2. Belle’s Patisserie - Sandton, Johannesburg

This fact that this sweet spot of Sandton has been voted as the best patisserie in Joburg for the second consecutive year should be self-explanatory. The people have spoken!

(Take note: Charly's Bakery will be closed for their annual break until 28 July 2015)
