Millennials are swapping the traditional honeymoon for other moons - such as a buddymoon and even a unimoon.

With the way life is set up newlyweds can no longer afford to go on honeymoon and some just do not have the time. Planning a wedding is an exhausting process both financially and emotionally, and all newlyweds deserve a few days away from the monster-in-law or relatives that don't want to return home even though the ceremony is long over.

While planning the big day, you no longer have to wonder if you can afford the honeymoon. We have rounded up five of the most incredible honeymoon destinations - whether you want to lie on the beach all day or hike up a mountain with your new life partner - there is everything you need within a budget that won't potentially bankrupt you.

Banff, Canada

Canada is a world of forests, like a Disney fairy tale, and after your perfect wedding ceremony it only makes sense to extend the romance into your honeymoon. If you are in search of a winter wonderland or want to be right at the centre of nature, then Canada is the direction to go.

However, prepare yourself for unpredictable weather - Canadian snow tends to make an appearance even in the warmer months. The freshwater lakes are ideal for canoes or a romantic stroll, and for the adventure seekers the majestic mountains make for the best hiking spots where you can also show off your skiing skills. Learn a new skill or two as well and make your honeymoon more memorable.

Cheapest month: The best month to get good deals on flights is in November.

Where to stay: AirbnB, pay only R518,34 per night. Canada has extremely beautiful homes that offer even better amenities, trade the traditional hotel for a cabin in the forest fitted with a fireplace and wake up to a view of lakes and snow-covered trees.

Budget: Flights start from R13 174, if you are taking your honeymoon in Canada your biggest expense will be flight tickets as everything else is so affordable.

Indonesia, Bali

Sometimes after trying the knot a charming and warm destination is exactly what you need and Bali ticks all the right boxes. Bali is famous for its beautiful beaches - go island hopping with your partner, hike up Mount Batur or visit ancient temples - there are so many memories to be made with the fraction of the price.

There are normally packages and  tours on offer for most activities, so immerse yourself in a lot of research while planning this trip - you are bound to find many hidden gems. Go on a quad or buggy driving adventure and tubing excursion for about R2 450 per person and cruise along dirt paths and rice fields.

Cheapest month: For the best deals, the cheapest month to travel is May - both accommodation and flights are cheaper.

Where to stay: Best Western Kuta Beach accommodation begins at R650 per night. The hotel is regarded as one of the most popular resorts on the beach.

Budget: Return ticket can be as low as R7 830 but can hike all the way up to R13 762

Warmbaths, Limpopo

Known for bushveld and wildlife reserves, including being part of the Kruger National Park, Limpopo had to make it onto the list. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and retreat to the Limpopo town known for its hot springs.

Warmbaths is surrounded by game lodges and reserves, where you are spoilt for choice in budget and activity like hot air balloon rides.

Cheapest month: Low season from May to August.

Ceres, Western Cape

If you are living under a rock and only know the Western Cape for Cape Town, then you will appreciate this find. The province is filled with amazing winelands historical towns and a variety of small beaches, including the bigger more popular beaches.

If all the popular spots tend are overflowing with people, head out to the little town of Ceres for some downtime. The town offers a view of incredible mountains and a range of activity. If you want to take it easy then the wine tours are for you, but if you are craving an adventure - much like what the new chapter of your life is going to be - go ziplining and view Ceres from a different eye.

Cheapest month: The low season is between May and August, this is the best time to get deals and have the reserve to yourselves because fewer people visit between these months.

Knysna, Western Cape

This destination is surrounded by mountains, beaches, lakes, forests as well as the fynbos of the Cape Floral Kingdom. If you and your partner love nature and all it has to offer then Knysna will fulfil your dream honeymoon destination. The different landscapes make it ideal for cycling, birding, golf, walking, surfing, and sailing - perfect for the couple looking for an adventure, the one looking to play tourist and those that just went to spend their time indoors together.

Cheapest month: Offseason is the best time to secure a good deal like with most travel destinations. May is the cheapest month to travel, where you can pay as low as R1 265 per night for two people sharing.
