Known for being 5-star all the way, this Mozambican island is one of those true island holiday dreams.
Home to some of Mozambique’s most exclusive resorts, it is a honeymooner’s paradise. Expect to pay upwards of R12K per night, though as the island only has luxury accommodation.

Loved by South Africans, it’s an ideal family getaway as at many resorts kids under 12 years stay free. Half-board is around R12K for 7 nights, so if you're keen on that resort life, book a trip as soon as your savings account says "Go!".
And if your going the self-catering route, expect to pay a little more than you would in SA. Most consumables are 22% higher priced in Mauritius than in South Africa. Still not European prices, but it's not dirt cheap like it would be in places like Koh Samui in Thailand.
São Tomé and Príncipe
One of the world’s least visited island destinations, you can fly there from Jozi with TAAQ for under R6K. Yes! Not bad.
Take note, however, there are no international ATM on the island so be sure to plan accordingly.
Then, a budget day on the island will set you back around €75 (R1 210) - i.e. for a room, food and travel costs. But you'll have to double that if you choose a resort stay.

Expect European prices! Reunion island uses the Euro, so a drink at a bar will cost you the same as it would in Nice or Marseilles. So around €9 (R145) for a cocktail in a bar.
To try and save money and get a self-catering stay instead of booking a hotel or resort.
Plus, go budget and shop for alcohol at the grocery store instead of going to bars.
