Book lovers, you're going to want to take the next flight to Buenos Aires just to check out this gorgeous bookstore.
Nestled in the Argentinian neighbourhood of Recoleta, El Ateneo Grand Splendid is a 20th-century theatre that was converted into a book haven in the 2000s.

It has also been dubbed the most beautiful bookstore in the world by National Geographic, and it's hard to argue with that reasoning.
Latin style permeates the decor, as thousands of books line the walls and main hall, the stage now being used as a cafe. If you find something to dive into, you can hide away in one of their converted former luxury boxes with your find and imagination.

However, the bookstore is dominated by Spanish works - Argentina's main language - with only a small section dedicated to English, but this doesn't dissuade tourists from just popping in for a gawk or selfie.
If you want to have a sip of literary coffee on the stage, National Geographic recommends visiting the bookstore during the week when it's less busy, and to visit the city in general, the smaller crowds are in June compared to the busy months of January, February and October.
