Paris might no longer be the city of love, as many are finding commitment and love in the multi-season hub that is Chile.

Forget Paris, people. And chuck the online dating apps, Chile is warming up in the love department. And it's a visa-free destination for South Africans!

Recently, InterNations compiled a list of the 9 most common New Year’s resolutions and the best destinations for pursuing them. Based on a list of 18,000 respondents living and working abroad, it offers a deep-dive analysis of life abroad, the survey ranks 68 countries by a variety of factors such as quality of life, working abroad, and settling in.

The survey found that more than half the expats who live in this South American country and are in a committed relationship (56%) have met their partner there, compared to 32 percent of expats worldwide who have found a partner in their new country of residence.

Of those expats in Chile who are in a relationship, almost half (49%) have a local national as their partner (vs. 35% globally), while just 29 percent are in a relationship with someone who has the same nationality (vs. 43% globally).

And it seems like they have found their special someone: more than nine in ten (93%) are happy with their romantic relationship (vs. 85% globally). A Uruguayan expat even says: “My partner is my favourite thing about Chile.”

Chile also has an extremely low divorce rate at 3%, while other countries like India, Colombia, Mexico and Turkey also boast very low divorce rates, says Unified Lawyers.

But Chile is also one of the world's most romantic places. Sure, Paris has the Eiffel tower, but Chile has wine routes, skiing, hot baths, sunsets behind the ancient Moai statues in Rapa Nui, flowering deserts, coastal beauty and more.
