There is something quite special about the much-loved human activity of spending a day in the park. Packed lunches, yoga and leisurely strolls - the draw is understandable. Paris is taking it a few steps further, allowing visitors to Bois de Vincennes Park to get even more ‘comfortable’ when enjoying the park - by getting completely nude. Oh, and you’re invited.

Since 31 August 2017, Parisian city officials have officially set aside a space in Bois de Vincennes Park for naturists to get a feel of the breeze in ways only a few will ever experience. With clearly marked signs, the nudity and freedom of the naturists is clearly respected in this country with more than 2 million naturists and naturism enthusiasts.

Located on the edge of the 12th arrondissement, east of Paris, the park is likely to see an influx of bare bodies on 24 June when a massive picnic will be hosted by Association des Naturistes de Paris. Held in celebration of what will be the inaugural ‘Parisian Day of Naturism’, which the group hopes will go on to become an annual event.

The day’s festivities include a stacked programme starting off with a spot of yoga in the green and flesh-coloured space. The Facebook page for the event asks attendees to bring their own towel and yoga mat. Attendees are then able to go on their way and relax and enjoy a casual picnic while the sun shines down on exposed bodies. Hopefully, the weather is favourable but if not, would-be attendees need not fret as nudists never have to hold their hands out to know if it’s raining.

If you’re keen on indulging in some of the snacks and bites to eat that will be on offer, make sure to contribute 5 Euros (R79,19) to the group’s “pot”. The event at the park will come to an end at 17:30, at which point the groups will move to a naturist restaurant appropriately named O’Naturel. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time on their site.

The Association states that the event partly aims to “...remind everyone of our desire to practice naturism in today's society. It is also a way of fighting ideologies and stereotypes all together on a symbolic day in a city that is very much watched in the world.”
