National Marine Week: What South Africans are doing to celebrate and protect our oceans

This week, 10-15 October, celebrates National Marine Week, which highlights the importance of oceans and the role they play in the life of all South Africans. 

The Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) is home to the endangered African Penguin and also manages a Marine Protected Area (MPA) of some 1000km2 of seas and coastline around the peninsula.

TMNP is the second most visited tourist destination in SA and one of the most internationally visible of all of South Africa’s national parks as it hosts the icons of Table Mountain and Cape Point, along with its World Heritage status.

This week is also International African Penguin Awareness Day on 13 October, a day dedicated to raising worldwide awareness about the plight of the endangered African Penguins.
