When choosing a city for a cool summer break, you must choose one with an ample supply of warm golden beaches filled with parties, waves and enough sun to prove you were on holiday.
But which city is the ultimate beach destination?

According to a ranking by travel insurance company Compare the Market, Dubai was the number one seaside city, where you can gaze upon its magnificent skyline while trying to stay cool on its expansive beaches - with maybe a camel or two on the horizon.
And our very own Mother City made it to the top 10 as well! Coming at number nine, it's not hard to imagine why Cape Town's beach aesthetic made it onto the list - despite the freezing water.
The factors that helped determine the ranking include accommodation costs, whether there are Blue Flag beaches, the number of attractions, the average summer rainfall and sunshine, how popular the cities are on Instagram hashtags and a safety score determined by Numbeo.
The data was collected from each city's summer months, depending on which hemisphere they reside in, and accommodation costs looked at the price for one night in a 3-star hotel.
In terms of safety, while San Sebastián in Spain ranked the highest, Cape Town had the second-lowest score for safety, beaten by Brazil's Rio de Janeiro for the bottom spot.
For accommodation, the Mother City came in fourth place, seventh for the number of attractions, eight for summer rainfall, 13th for sunny days with only about 10 hours of sunshine a day and 15th for Instagrammibility.
But it will be number one in our hearts - sorry Durban.
